Star Trails 2

Back in May I posted a photo of my first attempt capturing star trails. I recently returned to the same spot with a different technique to see if I could get a better result. This is a series of ten different pictures taken for five minutes each. I later layered them in photoshop to get this result! During my first attempt I noticed a lot of noise, or grainy specs throughout the photo. It was a 45min exposure at a high ISO. So this time I thought I would take a series of photos, shorter in time, but combined would make up the same time as the first. I added an extra five minutes to get longer star trails.
Next time I'll be including a little light painting where I'll fill in the trees with a flashlight!

2nd Attempt
Canon 5D, EF 24-105 f/4L IS USM, f/11, bulb setting for 10 photos @ 5 min each, combined later in photoshop, ISO 400

1st Attempt

Kale & Piper

I'm sure between their grandmother and uncle they're just sick of having their photo taken. But I love it when I can catch these two playing. Can you blame me?

"F" in Brier Island!

Okay, I have to say, Brier Island didn't turn out to be much of a photography excursion. Can you say Fog? Anyway, here's what I managed to get during the small breaks.

Inukshuk
Of all the things I was expecting to see on Brier Island, this wasn't one of them. But I need a silhouette for a photo assignment. (I'm taking a course through the New York Institute of Photography).

Western Light
You can see the fog in the background at the base of the lighthouse. There was a very small window to get a few shots. When I was leaving, a family with a young kid came in and he said "Dad, it's so cold here I can't even produce energy!"

I think the smartest thing for me to do here is not say anything at all. :o)

Ella

What a great day! On our way home from Brier Island, my wife and I stopped in to Annapolis Royal to visit family and friends. Our friends Jonny and Marianne have a beautiful little girl named Ella. It was our first time seeing Ella in almost two years and once she warmed up to us, (which wasn't long), I couldn't resist taking out the camera. This was my first time shooting Ella. She is such a beautiful little girl. The best part about shooting kids is once they forget about the camera you get the best shots!
