Jon Gray Handmade Shoes

This weekend I travelled to Annapolis Royal to do a photoshoot with Jon Gray of Jon Gray Handmade Shoes. I first met Jon back in November as we both attended the NSDCC Christmas Craft Show. His love and passion for making shoes was not only apparent in his craftsmanship, but also through his contagious spirit in which he presented his work. It was great to finally meet up with him again and to see this shoot come together.

Beautiful Little Girl

I can truly understand why the parents and grandparents of Hannah are beaming with joy. This little girl was such a delight to be around today. I honestly could not have asked for a more pleasant photo shoot. As I moved every piece of furniture around in their home, they still offered me coffee! What a great family and what a beautiful little girl!

East on Highway 107

Today I went to visit an area that had been largely destroyed by a forrest fire back in 2008. Between exits 17 and 19 on highway 107 you'll see the remnants of the fire on both sides of the road. Although there was substantial damage you can tell it is slowly coming back to life. Below are two photos from the area. The first is snow on the top part of a stump. I used two exposures for this image. One for the snow, the second for the wood.

Ice Boarding

Today was my first introduction to ice boarding. I knew these guys were on Lake MicMac and I just couldn't pass up the opportunity to photograph them. I went down and introduced myself. They were more then happy to let me take photos. The ice conditions seemed perfect and I regret not bringing my skates. Thanks to the group for letting me hang around and I hope we can get more shots in the near future.

Returning to Martinique Beach

The weather yesterday was too good to pass up so I decided to head back to Martinique Beach in search of good light. This time of year, you practically have the beach all to yourself. I saw this old lobster trap and I couldn't pass it by. It felt great to get out. So good in fact, I went back there this morning for sunrise! The last photo is one I took this morning. It was -13C and I'm so glad I brought my hand warmers!

Canada Games Oval

I went down this morning to check out the Canada Games Oval at the Halifax Commons. It's very cool and I can't wait to lace up and get out there. The city was busy clearing the snow off the ice from last night's snow fall. Although people tried to get on, it wasn't open to the public and a city official said to check the website each morning for updates. Breakfast Television was there too so I was able to at least get a few shots of the skaters with them. The Olympia is awsome!

Happy New Year!

I can't believe it's 2011! Where has the time gone? It was exactly a year ago that I left the military and started chasing this dream to be a photographer. It's been a great year for me and I hope for you too. I'm super excited about 2011 with some great photo shoots in the books. I'm in no hurry to wish this year away but I can't wait to see what another year will do for my business. I love what I do and I'm looking forward to the busy months ahead!

My wife and I just returned from Newfoundland where we enjoyed the holidays with our family. We spent the first few days in complete shock at the thought of my sister not being able to make it home from London, England because of 10cm of snow! She and her fiance slept in the airport and eventually made it home just in time. It wouldn't have been the same without them.

I managed to sneak in a few photos of my brothers family. My Niece Laura turned four on New Years Day and they always have photos done on her birthday. I am excited I was able to be with them this year and take the photos for them.
